Andrey Santos' loan spell at Nottingham Forest has been cut short, with Chelsea deciding to recall him from his unsuccessful loan there.

The midfielder was sent to Forest on a season-long loan, but Chelsea have taken up the option to bring him back in January due to a clause in the deal. According to , Forest will also incur mutually agreed financial penalties for not playing the 19-year-old despite him being fit.

Santos has made just one Premier League appearance, coming off the bench to play less than 10 minutes in the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool in late October. His only other outing came in a Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley in August. Chelsea are likely to loan him out again, with Strasbourg – who have the same owners – reportedly interested in taking him for the rest of the season.

The Brazilian agreed to join Chelsea in January 2023 but was loaned back to Vasco da Gama for the rest of the 2022-23 campaign. He is yet to make his competitive debut for the Blues, having been loaned out to Forest in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea will have to cancel one of their other loan deals if they want to send Santos to Strasbourg or any other foreign team. The Premier League team already have seven players out on loans outside of England for the rest of the season – the maximum number of international loans a team is allowed. As it stands, it seems Hakim Ziyech may return from his spell at Galatasaray.
